Bill badly tackled head-on benefits for employees of UAB should disappear in a House committee of Alabama

It has never been a shortage of Alabama politicians who use the burning questions that draw attention to themselves. Often, these issues do not contribute to move our state forward.

That may be true, said the wrong bill, the proposal by state Rep. heavyhanded DuWayne Bridges, R-Valley to block funding institutions such as public education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, to provide benefits for same-sex couples. Image bank began offering these services last autumn, and it did not take time for bridges and a few others to start pimping politics. Bridges fallacious argument is that he does not believe that "college is a waste of money make a statement liberal or politically correct. "

bnssuabed123.jpgAnd the Legislature should not waste your time try to micromanage political decisions in State Universities.

What bridges do not understand is that not only offers advantages such A question of justice, but UAB offers advantages to the medical school and other parts of the university can compete with the best schools in the country that offer these benefits. The benefits are not just for same-sex couples. The University allows employees to register couples homosexuals of any health insurance plan. The University of Alabama in Huntsville also offers benefits to partners and to benefit is under study at the University of Alabama.

Bill Bridges punitive state funding drawn from any college or university which offers advantages such.

offer domestic partner benefits is not uncommon. A survey conducted last year by Human Rights Campaign nonprofit found that 83 percent of the Fortune 100 offers same-sex partner or benefits. The organization also notes that 74 of the 130 universities in U.S. News & World list of schools report offering benefits to domestic partners.

UAB is one of the most important economic drivers in Alabama. UAB is a leader in the southeast of medical research, the university is the global leader in kidney transplants, School of Medicine and many medical disciplines are among the best in the nation.

To recruit and retain the best doctors, teachers and researchers, UAB has to offer competitive advantages. In addition, it offers value pairs is correct.

burning issues could get a politician some attention in Alabama, but that does not mean that much better. The Legislature should stay away and let universities to decide what benefits to offer their employees. In addition, legislators have many important decisions to take this session. These tangents are not constructive hot.

Bridges bad bill passed first reading in the first day of the legislative session and reported immediately to the Finance Committee of the House Education. I hope that wherever he is and where he died.

The attitudes of individual citizens play a central role in a democracy. In the United States today the two major parties are each associated with a broad set of policy positions representing the conservative and liberal political ideologies. The two major parties are becoming increasingly polarized on these ideologies between conservative Republicans and liberal Democrats. This book provides an in-depth examination of public opinion in a single American state Alabama to see whether the public opinionof general citizens follows this stereotype of ideological and partisan polarization. Alabama public opinion is analyzed on a fairly wide range of issues including the quality of public officials constitutional reform the role of government in terms oftaxes and overall spending education health care religion in public life crime and immigration. Alabama is generally perceived as staunchly conservative politically and as a reliably "red" Republican state in national elections. Yet public opinionin Alabama is considerably more nuanced and complex than this stereotype in two distinct aspects. First Alabamians are certainly conservative on many issues but they are also liberal on a significant number of others. Second the issue positions of thestate’s citizens are shaped by three different dynamics in terms of what factors influence specific attitudes. Furthermore a brief analysis of public opinion in the entire United States finds similar patterns. Thus the current polarization in party politics does not necessarily reflect public opinion in its entirety suggesting a need to transcend the competing conservative and liberal orthodoxies. The attitudes of individual citizens play a central role in a democracy.
