Private insurance to cover the costs of clinical swine flu to mass
Massachusetts communities are free of cost distribution of the vaccine against swine influenza under a comprehensive plan for the state announced Tuesday.
A handful of companies Private insurance has agreed to reimburse communities for staff costs and equipment associated with the operation of clinics Immunization, said the state Public Health Department spokesman John Jacob. The vaccine is free by the federal government.
"Cities and towns the flu clinics for residents of public celebration may incur significant administrative costs," said Jacob. "This provides a way for cities and towns to be reimbursed for administrative costs."
Some clinics have already been place in the area of Brockton, while others are planned for the weeks to come.
The costs may include payment communities of nurses and other staff to work in clinics, "said Jacob.
After covering costs is particularly important in the current budget situation, "he added.
The refund could help some communities to have more clinics planned, said Jacob.
Health plans to help provide funds include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, BMC Health Plan, Fallon Community Health Plan, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Health New England, the first full health, Tufts Health Plan and Unicare, according to the State Department of Public Health.
However, some public health officials in the area of Brockton said their costs for the clinics are already covered by grants.
In Brockton, the Board of Health has appealed to the federal government to grant public health emergency response to cover expenses related to the three clinics were held so far, said Executive Director Louis Tartaglia.
In western Bridgewater, is also being used to cover the costs of a public clinic scheduled for December 12 health officials said Robert Casper.
About 25 percent of swine influenza vaccines against state have been allocated to local health departments, state officials. The remaining 75 percent went to hospitals, doctors and community health centers.
The supply of vaccine has been slower than many expected date. But officials of the Department of Public Health of the State say that shipments must be collected in future weeks, public health clinics are planned.
The cases of swine flu, officially known as H1N1 has recently begun to decline nationally, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
